King Community Center Building & Exterior Improvements
Community Engagement  |  Milwaukee, WI

DREAM Builders is honored to have served as a key architectural consultant for the reimagining and rehabilitation of the
Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Community Center in Milwaukee. This landmark civic facility has been a cornerstone for recreation, cultural programming, and community engagement since the 1970s.

The goal of the project was to address long-standing infrastructure needs while modernizing the building for today’s community. DREAM Builders was a key contributor in delivering a project that improves durability, energy efficiency, accessibility, and programming flexibility. The scope of work included replacing the roof, restoring the façade to resolve deterioration, upgrading windows and doors, and enhancing accessibility throughout the site with ADA-compliant pathways and improved parking circulation. In addition, the project is intended to revitalize the courtyard and surrounding greenspaces, creating outdoor areas for gathering and recreation. DREAM Builders led a robust community engagement process in an effort to ensure the improvements reflected the needs and values of local residents.

This $2.87M investment, funded through State Neighborhood Investment Funds and Federal ARPA grants, reinvigorates a facility that honors its history while preparing for decades of future community use.
